3 OPPORTUNITIES THROUGHOUT YOUR DAY TO OPTIMIZE YOUR GREATEST CURRENCY!
There’s no better time than now to be vigilant about protecting the energy you keep. Why? Well, just look at the world—there’s a lot going on. You have things you want to accomplish and people you want to truly show up for. And, your energy is your greatest currency.
What do I mean by energy? I consider energy in three distinct ways: mental, emotional, and physical. Each type is different and gets impacted in unique ways throughout the day.
We can’t elevate what we don’t evaluate.
On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 = 🥴, 10 = 💃🏼), how would you rate your overall energy? And how would you rate each type: physical, mental, and emotional?
We can’t protect what we don’t understand.
When we're not clear on why we need optimal energy or who and what we need it for, it becomes much harder to set and protect boundaries around it. So, who or what needs your energy most right now?
There are three big opportunities to be more mindful of our energy: the beginning of the day, transitions throughout the day, and the end of the day.
Start noticing how your energy shifts in that first hour of your day.
The beginning of your day is the single most powerful time to fill your energy bank! You’d never leave the house (on purpose, anyway) with your phone at 3% battery, right? Yet, it’s easy to lose a lot of energy before finishing your first cup of coffee.
What are your eyes and ears consuming first thing in the morning?
What could you listen to or read that brings inspiration or adds energy?
Could you take just five minutes of stillness and quiet to center yourself before everyone and everything else pulls on your attention?
Or set aside time to move your body? Movement is scientifically proven to shift the energy in your body, so take advantage of it!
Every transition—starting a new task, attending an appointment, commuting—offers a chance to reset. So much energy can be lost running from one thing to another! Are you taking time to reset in between? Just two to five minutes to self-regulate and reset your body and mind can help you feel better and get more done!
The way you end your day can deeply impact your sleep and energy for the next morning. Try letting go of what can wait until tomorrow (literally and figuratively). Offload your thoughts, concerns, and to-dos onto paper to clear your mind. Release the day with a gentle evening walk. Movement after dinner not only aids digestion for better sleep but also helps discharge residual energy from your body.
So as we move into November, remember: your energy is not only your greatest currency but also a vital key to your well-being. Protect it fiercely, nurture it mindfully, and direct it purposefully.
Seek out the moments that lift you up, the people who energize you, and the boundaries that protect your peace. As the year winds down, challenge yourself to be fully present in where you invest your energy. Doing so isn’t just about self-care; it’s about creating a life where you can truly thrive, for yourself and those you care about most.
Your energy deserves nothing less! And as always, stay open, brave, and on-purpose.
