STRUGGLING TO FIND BALANCE BETWEEN BEING PRESENT WITH THE EASY GOING VIBE OF SUMMER AND PRODUCTIVITY? FOCUS ON THIS...
🎶 Summer, summer, summertime… time to sit back and unwind! 🎶
A Fresh Prince gen X classic that will NOT stop playing on repeat in my mind (and maybe now in yours too 😁).
Are you finding time to sit back and unwind this Summer?
I find my 3 pm self does quite well embracing the easygoing vibes of Summer. But 3am me? She doesn’t always approve, she’s a realllll stickler.
Why do we take advantage of a free moment to relax, but then beat ourselves up by obsessing over what we "should" have been doing instead?
Hustle and grind culture (which I’m becoming quite allergic to these days).
What is hustle and grind culture and why should we challenge it?
It’s a mindset focused on pushing yourself to the limit, a belief that you need to be constantly on the go, putting in long hours often at the expense of personal time and rest. It’s the pressure to always be busy and productive in order to get ahead. Which often results in burnout and stress, harming our health and relationships.
Questioning this mindset helps us find a better balance between work and life. When we value rest, personal time, and meaningful connections, we set ourselves up for more sustainable and fulfilling success.
So, when you find yourself lying there, "should-ing" yourself wide awake, here are some reminders that can help bring much-needed perspective:
Meet yourself where you are. If your body needs rest today, prioritize rest. If your spirit needs play, focus on what makes you laugh and have fun. If your mind needs rest, slow down and find some quiet time. If you're looking for growth and change, prioritize challenging yourself.
Do fewer things with more presence and focus. Small, consistent wins over time have a greater impact than doing many things every now and then. Define what it means to "win the day" for you in this season.
What are your three non-negotiables?
Personally and professionally, what three things can you commit to doing most days?
Celebrate slowing down and keeping it simple. When you stumble upon a quiet morning or an unexpectedly free afternoon, embrace the slow down and enjoy the small breaks in-between. I've discovered that the magic of life lies in the sum of these ordinary and sometimes unexpected moments.
Take a moment to reflect on what truly matters to you in this season. What are your three non-negotiables? How can you create space for rest, play, and growth in your daily routine? Share it with a friend or loved one!
This summer, I invite you to challenge yourself to slow down. Focus on what you need today and celebrate the small, ordinary moments that make life magical.
Here’s to making this season one of balance, presence, and guilt-free joy! As always, stay open, brave, and on-purpose.
