TWO SIMPLE WAYS TO GET GROUNDED AND PRESENT

Hello and welcome back!  Checking in on you.  How are you, really?  There’s a lot going on in the world right now.  If you haven’t taken a moment, a big deep breathe to check in, this is your invitation.  Too often our mind and body are not in the same place at the same time.  We get disconnected and lost in thoughts, stories, ideas that take us away from what is real and true in the present moment.

Today I am sharing two ways I get grounded and centered, find my footing when it feels like my world or the world is coming a bit undone. Two simple actions you can take when you find yourself so inside your head that the line between what if and what is becomes blurred.

Practice Presence.  Being present is a practice, an every day deliberate exercise.  For me, doing things that keep me in my body help me return to the present moment.  Help me stay out of my thinking mind and “what if” of the unpredictable future.  Things like a mindful walk outside, a workout in my garage, a group class at my favorite studio in town.  Movement has a magical way of moving energy through and out.  Moving the body with intentionality can be a gentle and easy way to practice embodiment and presence.

Connection.  When we are stuck it can feel lonely and isolating, like we are the only one struggling with this one thing. If you’re like me you might even find yourself retreating a bit, hiding out and waiting for the feeling to pass.  The more I recognize my resistance to connection, the clearer it becomes how much I need it. The truth is, you don’t have to be alone in your confusion and overwhelm of whatever challenge is consuming you.  Reach out and share a moment of connection with someone.  A conversation with a friend, a phone call to family, a smile and expressed appreciation for your favorite barista at the coffee shop.  Connection with other humans is a reminder that the world is much bigger and kinder than we imagine and whatever we might be feeling or experiencing isn’t so unique after all.  It’s our reminder of how interconnected we really are and that we don’t have to carry the hard things alone.

This week, reach for presence and connection, my friend.  Especially if you don’t feel like it.  Slowly and surely you’ll begin to feel a little lighter, a little less alone.  As always, stay open, brave, and on-purpose.
